Vuonna 1806 Maalahden seurakunta sai Turun tuomiokapitulilta kirjeen, jossa pitäjänkokousta kehotettiin neuvottelemaan uuden kirkon rakentamisesta. Tarkastaja totesi, ettei hän voinut taata vuonna 1659 rakennetun kirkon kattorakenteen kestävyyttä. Kirkko oli myös liian pieni, sinne mahtui vain 742 asukasta kaikkiaan noin 1620 asukkaasta. Päätettiin perustaa rakennusrahasto, ja asia lykkääntyi vuoteen 1817 asti. Tuolloin päätettiin, että uusi kirkko ja hautausmaa rakennetaan Mattlarin mäelle, joka ei kelvannut viljelyyn. Kirkkoherra sai myös tehtäväkseen hankkia uuden kirkon piirustukset. Kului taas 11 vuotta, ja perustukset muurattiin vasta vuonna 1828. Rakennusmestari Henrik Kuorikoski sai tehtäväkseen rakentaa uuden kirkon Charles Bassin piirustusten mukaan. Kun päätös puukirkosta oli tehty, maalahtelaiset rakensivat hyvin lyhyessä ajassa kolmannen kirkkonsa 7.4.–25.7.1829, ensimmäinen jumalanpalvelus pidettiin jo heinäkuun 19. päivänä.

Malax church 

In 1806, the parish of Malax received a letter from the cathedral chapter in Turku with an invitation to the parish meeting to discuss a new church. An inspector found that he could not guarantee that the roof structure would hold in the 1659 church. The church was also too small, accommodating only 742 of a total of about 1620 inhabitants. It was decided to establish a building fund and the matter was put on hold until 1817. At that time, the meeting decided that the new church and cemetery would be built on Mattlarsbacken, which was still not suitable for cultivation. The pastor was also commissioned to obtain drawings for a new church. This took another 11 years until the foundation was laid in 1828. Builder Henrik Kuorikoski was commissioned to be responsible for the construction according to the drawings made by Charles Bassi. And once they had decided, it went away. Between April 7 and July 25, 1829, the people of Malax timbered up their third church, the first service was held as early as July 19.
